Letter Aa Week

 This is what our ABC binders look like this year. About the same as last year. All crafts will be posted under their letter of the week and under Alphabets Crafts in labels.

Lapbook for three and four year olds

Printable's for the apple color book and the colored apples are my curriculum I purchased a few years ago KidSparkz. The a tracer sheet is from Everything for preschool I purchased from Wal-Mart for about $3.50. I just make copies.

 This colors apples sheet was also found at 1+1+1=1 site. This one was colored by a two year old, impressive!

And I was also impressed that the four year old could complete this one on his own without any help, way to go!

Letter a Craft

Inspiration for this cute craft came from Pocketful of Posies. They kids colored theirs and I made leaves for their apples to glue on top. This craft will go in their ABC binders. You can find an a temple here.

Sensory Bin or Discovery Box

Apple - Red - Fall Sensory Bin

I'm not exactly sure what to call our bin. It's discovering of new things, learning new ways to play and build and create with old things added with new, it appeals to all senses. It sure keeps them engaged with whatever to call it. And they sure are enjoying it!

This bin is a concoction of things. I was aiming for an apple, red, Fall theme. 

Inside the bin are red and green apples.

Red, green,yellow, orange, leaves.

Red blocks, alphabet letters, cars, chenille pipe cleaners and stacking cups.

Straws of different colors.

I also bought each child a Fall leaf tray from the Dollar Tree to play with in the bin as well.

Lot's of sorting!

Lot's of filling and scooping!

Lot's of imaginative fun!

Letter Aa Week

Today we read the book 'Max & Mo Go Apple Picking" by: Patricia Lakin

Max and Mo are two hamsters that live in a classroom and are tired of eating corn. When the children go apple picking, so do Max and Mo. This book contains a recipe on how to make applesauce and how to make apple prints.

Before our craft we decided to have an apple tasting extravaganza. All the children brought to daycare a different kind of apple that morning for this reason. We had a whole basket full!

I made an apple graph for us to see which ones we liked and which ones we didn't like.

Now it was off to what they had all been waiting for. Painting with apples! They just couldn't stand it any longer!

I set up two large sheets of paper on the table for them to share and paint on.

 By the way. These large sheets of paper and several other types were donated to my daycare from a lady that works at a printing company. This is paper that no one can use and would normally get thrown out. Can you believe that?! I am so thankful she is bringing it here to us, it will get used!

I brought out red, green, and white tempera paint and craft sticks to place in the apple to use as a handle.

They really had a great time!

So beautiful!

Letter Aa Week

Today we began our Letter Aa week and we are focusing on Apples.

I read 'I Am An Apple'

by: Jean Marzollo

This story depicts a bud on a apple tree as it grows into an apple, ripens, is harvested, and provides seeds as a promise for the future.

Apple Craft

I printed this apple template on cardstock from the Jumbo Border's Book a former kindergarten teacher gave me. I cut red squares for them to glue on the apple and they used a green marker to color the leaf.

This will go in their ABC Binders

I found these apple tracer sheets at 1+1+1=1 Tot School Printable's. Trace Big A to little a. I laminated them so they could practiced with them all week. The younger tots got a kick out of just drawing all over it. Funny!

Apple Popsicle Stick Craft

Yea, it's a square apple!

I think it's kinda cute!

We made this craft last year on Arts & Crafts Day!

Supplies we Used

eleven red craft sticks 

two plain craft sticks

goggly eyes

marker (to draw mouth)

ribbon (to hang)

pipe cleaner (for stem)

construction paper for leaf (hand drawn)

hot glue

Back view-how it was assembled.

My hot glue was very stringy!

But since then I've acquired a new hot glue gun, it's cordless & way less stringy! 

:)

Letter Aa Week

I found this cute idea from here at Pocketful of Posies...
This will go into their ABC binders.

Supplies needed:
construction paper
googly eyes
glue
marker
crayons

I drew the letter A on green construction paper, let the kids color it and then cut it out and glued to another sheet of construction paper.
Cut teeth out and have them glue in place.

Later we did a sheet with a Rhyme on it called Ava, Ava, Alligator

This came from kid sparkz preschool resources.

Then acted it out! They had so much fun with this! Look at those faces!

I also told them the story of Johnny Appleseed. And they colored Johnny Appleseed's tree.

Now it was time to make an apple tree craft.

Items Used:

green construction paper

paper towel tubes

paper plates

brown tempera paint

hot glue/glue

apple clip art

scissors

I cut the tree top for the children, and printed clip art from the computer.

Next they painted the paper towel tubes brown for their tree trunks.

After drying I made four cut slices on one end. This was to bend backwards and glue to the paper plate, after decorating. I used hot glue here to help it stand.

They each glued their apples on the tree and colored the paper plate green. And I help them assemble as needed.

 I think they came out cute!
