4th of July Star Wands

This is the second year we've made these and they love them!

        Supplies Used:
  • red, white, and blue stars (I cut these with cardstock) different sizes
  • red, white, and blue, wire star garland (purchased at Dollar Tree)
  • craft dowel rods (from Wal-Mart .97)
  • glue
  • pop dots
  • scissors

We used one blue star, two white stars, and two red stars for this craft.

They began by gluing the stars together. Red on white, then white on blue.
Then they flipped it over to add the dowel rod.
Added a pop dot on each side of the rod to hold it in place and added another white star and red star on top. The stars stick to the pop dots as well.

Then added the garland by wrapping it around the dowel rod.

Grand Old Flag Craft

I love the 4th of July, not only do we celebrate America's birthday, we celebrate mine as well!
Monday I will be closed so we started working on our holiday crafts this week.
This one should have been posted yesterday, but our modem went out!

I was told this was a very fun craft by the kids!

         Supplies we Used:
  • blue pre-cut squares of construction paper
  • red cardstock
  • white tempera paint
  • star sponges
  • sponge paint brushes
  • glue
  • scissors
  • paint tray

They began here by gluing the blue square in the top left hand corner.

With the sponge paint brush they painted the white stripes for the flag.

Then added the white star with the star sponge on the blue square

This really was a fun patriotic craft!

You're a Grand Old Flag

by George M. Cohan
You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.
You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.

Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Have A Happy & Safe 4th of July!

Letter Ff Week: Firefighters

Letter Ff Week: Firefighter

We began our week by reading a book about firefighters.
A First Start-Easy Reader Book-Fire Drill is a book about a fireman named Fred who goes to an elementary school to teach children about fire safety.

Since October is Fire Safety Month, you can view what we did here.

F is for Flag

This was a very fun craft to make!
This would work well as a 4th of July craft.
Craft was found HERE

Supplies we used:
white paper red & blue construction paper
cardstock for stars
glue
scissors
I used an F template to trace on the construction paper.
Then the children glued the pieces together.
This will go into their ABC binders

 They also practiced pre-writing skills
 Download the sheet below HERE

F is for Feathers

Another fun craft that will go into their ABC binders!
template from dltk-kids
They also have a Facebook page

Each week I make each child their own letter of the week book. We read it together and they color each page in the book. I've noticed I do not have pictures of some, but I do print them each week.

And these completed the week..
