Letter Ff | Farm and Farm Animals

This week we were on the Letter Ff and our focus was "Farms and Farm animals." Concentrating on the sounds animals make, what's on a farm, learning farm related songs, and reading books geared towards farm life, or farm animals.

First we started reading in our lap books. Saying each animal and their sound and colors.

At the top of the lap book was a cut and paste sheet "What can people use from animals?"
After matching these together, this was a great opportunity to bring the items I had here at home to show them. Of course I had all but the goats milk. The feathers probably were not from a duck, they were ones we use for crafts, but it helped for them to get a hands on experience. And more opportunity to talk about how important farms and farms animals are to us.

We read the book
Who's on the Farm?
by: Dorothea DePrisco
This is a lift the flap book of animal sounds.

Day 2
We read our "At the Farm" book found in our lap book.
Then did a do a dot Ff  sheet

 Then we read the story
"Big Red Barn"
by: Margret Wise Brown

After story telling it was time for a craft.

They made a Farm Tractor. This will go in their ABC Binders.

And we learned the song BINGO! What a lot of fun this turned out to be.

Day 3
Matching the Farm Animals

This activity caused so many giggles, why, they were laughing because the animals didn't
have a back end! What?! They are so silly! For the tots I glued the FRONT end of the animal and let them match the BACK end. For the older child, he can do this by his self.

 Farm Words
This was specifically for the five year old.
Which he really enjoyed!

Everyone had a color sheet of a cow. This one happened to be red, someone's favorite color.

And this work sheet was to count the babies and place the number in the box.

 And that was our week!

The Ugly Duckling | Letter Dd

As we move on with our letter Dd and ducks, I just had to read The Ugly Duckling to the kids. I do not think any of the kids have heard this story before. They were very engrossed in the story.

After reading the book we worked on a duck craft.

We made this craft last year too. I found this at Pocketful of Posies.

Items Used:
construction paper
feathers
glue
googly eyes
marker

As we were putting our ducks together we sang a song to make this even more fun.

5 Little Ducks
Five little ducks went to play,
Wibble Wobble, Wibble Wobble to and fro.
But the one little duck with a feather on his back,
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack.

This craft will go into their ABC Binders.

Letter Bb Week | Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?

This week we are on the Letter Bb and we are focusing on bears.

We started by reading the book 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?'
The book is about a variety of different colored animals and a teacher looking at them.
This has to be one of the favorite of books here! After I'm finished reading the book I hear "AGAIN!, AGAIN!"

After reading the book they made a B is for bear craft.
This craft will go in their ABC Binders
Note: the 4 yr.old said the bear looks like a beaver! LOL

Then they began to work in their lap books.
This is the lap book for the tots. Not much different from the one below, except they do not have a tracer sheet yet. To the left is a list of bears I googled and printed. The right side is a short list of what bears eat.
The Bb bear sheet came from First School.

This is the three and four year olds lap book.
Here I found a Brown Bear 'Coloring Animals' book from 1+1+1=1, cute book huh?!

Also in their lap books is a

Teddy Bear Rhyme:

Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around.
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear find your nose.
Teddy bear, teddy bear wiggle your toes.
Teddy bear, teddy bear jump up now.
Teddy bear, teddy bear take a bow.
Teddy bear, teddy bear slap your knees.
Teddy bear, teddy bear sit down please.

Love it!
And finally for today they colored a bear page from Kids Soup. It's a free color sheet, so go grab one!

Thanks for stopping by!

Letter Aa Week

This is what our ABC binders look like this year. About the same as last year. All crafts will be posted under their letter of the week and under Alphabets Crafts in labels.

 Lapbook for tots
The Aa sheet is from 1+1+1=1

Lapbook for three and four year olds
Printable's for the apple color book and the colored apples are my curriculum I purchased a few years ago KidSparkz. The a tracer sheet is from Everything for preschool I purchased from Wal-Mart for about $3.50. I just make copies.
This colors apples sheet was also found at 1+1+1=1 site. This one was colored by a two year old, impressive!

And I was also impressed that the four year old could complete this one on his own without any help, way to go!

Letter a Craft
Inspiration for this cute craft came from Pocketful of Posies. They kids colored theirs and I made leaves for their apples to glue on top. This craft will go in their ABC binders. You can find an a temple here.

Letter Aa Week

Today we began our Letter Aa week and we are focusing on Apples.

I read 'I Am An Apple'
by: Jean Marzollo
Photo
This story depicts a bud on a apple tree as it grows into an apple, ripens, is harvested, and provides seeds as a promise for the future.

Apple Craft
Photo

I printed this apple template on cardstock from the Jumbo Border's Book a former kindergarten teacher gave me. I cut red squares for them to glue on the apple and they used a green marker to color the leaf.

This will go in their ABC Binders

I found these apple tracer sheets at 1+1+1=1 Tot School Printable's. Trace Big A to little a. I laminated them so they could practiced with them all week. The younger tots got a kick out of just drawing all over it. Funny!

Here are couple of song's we listened to today!
Did you know there were so many different types of apples?

Letter Vv Week

We began our week of the letter V by reading the
Magic School Bus Blows Its Top
A Book About Volcanoes
By: Gail Herman
They loved the story of how the school children traveled with their teacher in a magic school bus deep in the ocean to discover how volcanoes are born.

After reading the book it was time to make a Homemade Volcano. This was so much fun.
You can read that post HERE if you would like to try this too.

After all the excitement died down we made another volcano. This one will go in their ABC Binders
For this craft I drew a volcano shape on brown construction paper. The kids colored on their volcano and cut them out and glued to another sheet of paper. Then added red, orange, and yellow streamers for the hot lava shooting out.  I found this craft here.

Letter Vv Lapbooks
We read and colored in our Vv books together. The kids worked in their lap books throughout the week, with size sorting violins, tracing and pre-writing the letter Vv, and drawing a volcano in their books. Inspiration for this lap book came from here.

On the back they worked on patterns again this week.

V is for vase
Here I drew the letter V on construction paper and they colored and cut out. Then glued to another sheet of paper. I cut flowers and leaves to add to the top for their vase. These will also go in their binders. Craft found here.

More Vases

We made another vase using TP rolls
 Supplies Used:

  • TP rolls
  • craft sticks
  • glue
  • tempera paint
  • marker
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • paint brush
  • construction paper (I pre-cut the flowers and leaves)

They first painted their TP rolls, and set aside to dry.

Next used their marker to color their craft sticks green for the stem.

Next they gathered their flowers and began putting the pieces together.
And here they all are below.
We made this a couple of years ago as an Easter bouquet for Mom.
We used patterned paper for the flowers.

V is for Vegetables
The kids put together a vegetable plate. I pre-cut these the night before and thought they would enjoy this craft. They talked about the vegetables they were placing on their plates as if it were real!
They said "I really don't like radishes or celery!" Meaning they really didn't want it on their plate! Haha!

They also worked on Vv sounds sheet.

More pre-wrinting

And that was our week!
