Today we read the book

"There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat!"

by: Lucille Colandro

This book is about an old lady who swallowed a wizard, some bones, a goblin, a ghost, a cat, an owl, and a bat! Imagine that! We read this book over and over, what a hit!

After the excitement of the book we made a bat craft, that turned into two crafts!

Above is the finished craft. It didn't quite turn out like I thought, but that's alright.

For the bat craft we used:

A bat template from google

Black construction paper

Pom-poms to paint with

Painter's tape to tape down the bat template

paint tray

Different color paint, we used Halloween colors

 found craft here.

 And above is the surprise craft, I really love this one!
These will go in their binders.

 We also worked in their lapbooks. We read over the Halloween words and counted Halloween spookies. I forgot to share a picture of the inside.
I cut pumpkins with my Cricut for them to draw faces on to make Jack-o-Lanterns, and they also traced the Letter Hh.

 Color the Pumpkin worksheet.

Pre-Writing practice, umm, I didn't pay attention to the top, Cutting practice. Anyway, they had three sheets this time.

Letter Hh Week | The Little House

To go along  with our Letter Hh week

we also read the book 

"The Little House"

by Virginia Lee Burton 

 The book is about a little pink house that was well built in the country. The little house could see see the lights of the city at night and always wondered what the city was like. As the years went by the city grew around the little house and it dreamed of being in the country again. It missed the apple blossoms in the Spring, it missed the Winter. Until one day the great great grand daughter of the owner that built the house noticed the little house in the city. She decided to bring it to the country and fix the house up.

 After reading the story we made our own little house.

These will go into our ABC Binders.

Letter Hh Week | Hearts

Last week we began our letter Hh

Homes and Hearts.

Our lap book has a "My Book About Hh" that we read together each day and the children color in.

The left side shows different types of homes animals or people live in. And the right side of the lap book has different color hearts I drew that they had to match by coloring in.

At the top they matched different color hearts.

Do a Dot Hh sheet

I couldn't get this picture to load correctly for some reason.
The right work sheet is a tracer sheet and find the letter Hh 's.
The sheet on the left is Alphabet matching.

Since it's  Valentine's week the Hearts theme worked out perfectly, so we did different heart related things.

Hh is for Heart's, this will go into their ABC Binders.

Letter Hh Week

We started our week reading the book"Henny Penny" who gets hit in the head by an acorn while she is eating corn in the farmyard. She doesn’t know what hits her and assumes the sky is falling. On her way to warn the King she runs into Cocky Locky, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey  one at a time, and the group gets larger and larger as they make their way to the King’s Palace. They all run into Foxy Woxy, and he tells them they are going the long way and advises they take a short-cut.  He tricks them and leads them into a cave that is really his home.  The King was never told the sky was falling and Foxy Woxy and his family had them all for dinner. My book has pictures for words so they enjoyed reading along.

Big H little h

For this learning activity I drew a capital letter H on a piece of paper. I took small multi label stickers and wrote the lower case h on them. The children place the stickers around the capital H, and we repeat BIG H, little h, BIG H little h.

  

H is for Horse

To complete our week the children painted horses. I swirled brown and white paint together to give a little interest to their art work. They thought it was awesome! 

He seemed to really be bringing the white out in this photo.
