There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat! and a Bat Craft

Today we read the book
"There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat!"
by: Lucille Colandro

This book is about an old lady who swallowed a wizard, some bones, a goblin, a ghost, a cat, an owl, and a bat! Imagine that! We read this book over and over, what a hit!
After the excitement of the book we made a bat craft, that turned into two crafts!

Above is the finished craft. It didn't quite turn out like I thought, but that's alright.

For the bat craft we used:
A bat template from google
Black construction paper
Pom-poms to paint with
Painter's tape to tape down the bat template
paint tray
Different color paint, we used Halloween colors

 found craft here.
And above is the surprise craft, I really love this one!
These will go in their binders.

We also worked in their lapbooks. We read over the Halloween words and counted Halloween spookies. I forgot to share a picture of the inside.
I cut pumpkins with my Cricut for them to draw faces on to make Jack-o-Lanterns, and they also traced the Letter Hh.

 Color the Pumpkin worksheet.
Pre-Writing practice, umm, I didn't pay attention to the top, Cutting practice. Anyway, they had three sheets this time.

All worksheets and Halloween word and counting book can be found here.

Letter Cc Week | Circus Unit

First I want to show everyone what the front of the children's binders look like this year. We were late on getting binders. This year I thought I would get a little more creative. I like them!

This week we were on the Letter Cc and a Circus Unit. The unit is from Homeschool Creations.

Front of their lap book

The inside of their lap book. The left and right side are different things that belong in the Circus. Circus tickets with numbers and the child's name.
A clown book from KidSparkz.com, which is a resource CD for pre-schoolers I purchased a few years ago.

An emergent reader book we read each day along with going over things in the lap book.

Cotton Candy color book. These are always fun.

Cut and sort

Another pre-writing sheet, I find he did a little better with this one. I made this with a yellow hi-lighter.

Other things that start with Cc

Letter Aa | Astronaut Unit

Our preschool lessons are back in session. This week we started with the letter A and our focus is Astronauts. It was a short week and could have spent more time on this unit.

We read the book
"I want to Be an Astronaut"
by: Byron Barton
This is a simple text book introducing children to space.

This is the front of their lapbooks.

The inside
The inside includes space words with picture recognition. The lap books are almost the same each with for repetition.
Also included size sorting rockets.
The count down to blast off, counting backwards from 10. They really enjoyed this and shouting Blast Off!

 Rocket colors, following color directions.
This is our space wall. Introduction to the universe.
Find and color the letter Aa.
I let them use dot markers for this.

Do a Dot astronaut page

 Astronaut puzzle
this will go into their ABC Binders

 Pre-writing practice

Other things that begin with the letter Aa.

Rocket Craft
this will also go into their ABC Binders

And that was our week!
Thanks for stopping by!

Blueberries for Sal | Unit Lapbook

Awesome book!
This book is about a little girl, her mother, a baby bear, and her mother picking and eating blueberries.

Blueberries for Sal lapbook

This is the inside of our lapbooks, unit found here.
The inside sides are different  things that are found in the book.
Blueberry numbers  to count at the top, and a emergent reader book.
This is a cut and paste short text book teaching besides, on top, next to, etc. This became a great demonstration book for little tots who didn't quit understand, and lots of fun.

They had to glue little bear where each sentence read where he was at. This is where I demonstrated the words.

On the back of our  lapbook the children put a puzzle together to their skill level.

Wednesday-
I found a youtube video of the book.
The book is being read by a solider dad to his children. Yeah, his shirt is off, that I don't get, but I explained to the children that this dad was in the army and far away from his children and found time to send them a video reading a story to them.
One child under stood because their family used Skype when his dad worked in Afghanistan.

Having no place to pick blueberries, we used our imagination a little and pretended to pick blueberries and put in a pail.
I cut out blueberries from construction paper and they glued and counted their berries. They love to glue, so this activity was enjoyable.
This will go in their binders.

After we used a recipe from Homeschool Creations to make Blueberry Freezer Jam!

Ingredients:
3 1/2 c. blueberries, rinsed
5 c. sugar
3/4 tbsp. lemon juice
1  pkg. powered pectin
3/4 c. water

Place in large bowl and add lemon juice,

In saucepan mix pectin and water, bring to boil stirring constantly for 1 min.
Pour pectin mixture in bowl with fruit, stir and mix for 3 min.

Pour in jars, leaving 1/2 in. from top, cover tightly right away and let sit for 24 hours.

Store in freezer.

Makes approx. 6 cups
