Advent Calender Days 10,11, & 12
Today I'm posting days 10, 11, & 12 of our Advent Calender!
Day 10: Painting Pine Cones

pine cones
white paint
paint brushes
paint trays
Glitter Shakers provided to us from craftprojectideas which was perfect for this craft!

Day 11: Making Simple Snowmen

white cardstock
black and orange construction paper
scissors
glue
I used a plate to trace the a circle for the snowman's face
a small top to trace his eyes and I free handed the carrot nose and his mouth

Very simple for them and they loved it! I found this at School Time Snippets, she used paper plates instead of cutting out cardstock. I just didn't have any paper plates.

Day 12: Making Paper Snowflakes
paper and scissors

Now I realize this isn't round like a snowflake, but I was trying to show seven children today. Only two could cut really well. So I am very pleased with the results and so were they. I'm working very hard with the tots on learning to hold the scissors the proper way to be able to cut. We had so much paper on the floor, it looked like it snowed in my house! :)
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the the time to leave a comment! :)

Advent Calender Day 6 | Little Tree
Today we had to color a Christmas page.
But first I wanted to read this book called
Little Tree
By: E.E. Cummings
I just love the illustrations in this book!
It has a wonderful poem at the beginning of the book. Little Tree dreams of being a Christmas tree someday. One day a little family brought little tree to their little house and hung little lights and little ornaments on Little Tree. Now Little Tree has his own Little Home.
After reading the book I gave the children a picture of Little Tree in the little city to paint with water colors. I drew this last night and made copies for each child. It's the same picture from the front of the book, well almost. :)
I think they came out great!
Thanks for stopping by today,

Advent Calender Day 5 | Dream Snow
Today's Advent Calender activity said to read a Christmas Book.
The book we chose was
Dream Snow
by Eric Carle

This is a musical book about a farmer who celebrates Christmas after the first snowfall.
After he awakens from a dream he discovers that it really has snowed, puts on his red suit and brings gifts to the animals and places them under the musical tree.
On the last page they show a bare tree with ornaments, tinsel and gifts under the musical tree. For our craft we were to replicate the musical tree. We were going to add gifts, but the tots said "I'm done!" So we were done. :)
To make the tree I traced cut out a bare tree on thin cardboard.
The children colored it brown and added spangles for the ornaments and silver glitter glue for tinsel. Maybe will we gets gifts under the tree later.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
Lori
As soon as I can locate this photo, I will replace it! :(

Advent Calender Day 2 | Tree Ornament
Yesterday we posted our first Advent Calender activity, and which almost immediately it was featured on Craft Gossip! Yay, so exciting! Be sure and check out our craft.
For Day 2 the activity was to make a Tree Ornament and watch a Christmas movie. We watch O' Christmas which is about a bear cub who could not sleep through Winter because of his parents snoring. So he decides to go exploring because he has never seen the snow.
Today we made a Tree Ornament for the Christmas tree. I found this craft at Mermaids' Makings, an Egg Carton Christmas Tree.
Gather the supplies:
cardboard egg carton-I used one from a 2 1/2 dozen size
scissors
green tempera paint
paint brushes
spangles and buttons-not shown
tot trays
ribbon
glue
hot glue
After the carton was cut they began painting all the carton pieces.
Below I cut holes in some to hang with ribbon. This is the top of tree ornament.
Next I used the hot glue gun to glue the carton pieces on top of one another. Then the kids began to decorate with buttons and spangles.

Advent Calender Day 1| Pine Cone Christmas Tree
This year I made the children an Advent Calender filled with activities to count down to Christmas. Each day is filled out even though they are only here five days a week. We will double up and my grandson is here some weekends and this can be for him to do as well.
Our first craft is a Pine Cone Christmas Tree. They love Pine Cones and this was simple and working on those fine motor skills.
First gather supplies.
I received a box of craft supplies from craftprojectideas.com, and this large bag of pom poms were in the box, all different sizes and colors. Which made it perfect for this craft.

They started by adding glue around the pine cone and placing pom poms on.
End it by adding a large sparkly pom pom on top!
Simple and very enjoyable craft they can take home and display on the mantle, shelf, or in their bedroom.
