Letter Ii Week

Island

Today we our week by reading the book The Little Island by: Margaret Wise Brown
This book is about a little island in the ocean and how the seasons change.

To go along with the book the children made their I craft that will go into their binders.
I cut everything out for them and let them color it and glue in place.
Idea from No Time For Flashcards

They also practiced their pre-writing/tracing skills here
Sorry no picture.

Ii is for Ice cream

I read the book Ice Cream Bear
by: Jez Alborough
This book is about a bear who falls asleep and dreams it's snowing ice cream.

After reading the book it was time to make an ice cream craft.
 Inspiration for this found HERE
I drew and cut the cones out and used a 1 inch circle punch and scrap paper for the ice cream.
This doubled as a great counting craft as well!
Then wrote the numbers 1-5 on the cones and we counted scoops as we went along.
This will go in their ABC Binders
So we continued with the theme except using paint this time.
They dipped their fingers in the paint and we counted ice cream scoops.

Download the Ii tracer/pre-writing sheet HERE

For snack time we had ice cream of course!

Ii is for Insects

We completed the week with insects..
I printed an Ii template from dltk-kids and they glued pictures of insects on their template.
And then we went outside to hunt insects!

For Valentines Day I broke out the cookie cutters for a little  Heart Tracing. This will give them great practice on their tracing skills and they wouldn't realized it and have fun doing it!

Supplies Used
construction paper (any colors)
glue
scissors
pencil colors

First I let them trace the hearts with cookie cutters on different color construction paper.
Them I cut them all out!

And the gluing begins!

Letter Hh Week

We started our week reading the book"Henny Penny" who gets hit in the head by an acorn while she is eating corn in the farmyard. She doesn’t know what hits her and assumes the sky is falling. On her way to warn the King she runs into Cocky Locky, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey  one at a time, and the group gets larger and larger as they make their way to the King’s Palace. They all run into Foxy Woxy, and he tells them they are going the long way and advises they take a short-cut.  He tricks them and leads them into a cave that is really his home.  The King was never told the sky was falling and Foxy Woxy and his family had them all for dinner. My book has pictures for words so they enjoyed reading along.

Hh is for Hen
This will go in their ABC binders
I found the pictures from the internet from a google search
Hh template can be found at dltk-kids

They also practiced pre-writing skills

Big H little h

For this learning activity I drew a capital letter H on a piece of paper. I took small multi label stickers and wrote the lower case h on them. The children place the stickers around the capital H, and we repeat BIG H, little h, BIG H little h.

H is for Horse

To complete our week the children painted horses. I swirled brown and white paint together to give a little interest to their art work. They thought it was awesome!
He seemed to really be bringing the white out in this photo.

Letter Ll Week

L is for Lion

We started our week by reading
Deep in The Jungle by: Dan Yaccarino
This book is about a very bossy lion who gets tricked into joining the circus.
When he returns to the jungle he realizes just how wonderful his friends are.

After reading the book to them it was time to make a lion footprint craft!
I brought out the yellow paint and a sponge paint brush.
And painted feet!

And then they stamped on cardstock!
And then added face features, a mane, and a tail.
 So cute!
This will go in their binders.
Craft found at Pocketful of Posies

L is for Ladybug

The Grouchy Ladybug by: Eric Carle
More than likely needs no introduction.
This is about a bully ladybug who learns that being a bully just isn't the way.
I enjoy this book because it teaches we don't fight period!!

After the story and a good talk about bullies the children made a ladybug.
Not a grouchy one though.
I prepared oval shapes the night before and cut the antennae and legs.
First they put dots on their ladybugs with dot markers.

Then added its head.
Completed with eyes, antenna, and legs.
And added an L on its back.
This will go in their ABC Binders
craft found at Pocketful of Posies

Also for our Ll week
we read together and they colored their Ll book

Do a Dot sheets

Ladybug Number Practice/pre-writing skill

Do a dot & number practice found at Confessions of a Homeschooler

Color the L orange - Color the l red

Circle the smallest object in each box sheet

Circle the pictures the start with the sound of Ll.

And that's a wrap for our week!

Letter Gg Week: Gumball Machine

I can't remember where I printed this from!
The gumballs in the machine, I used scrap paper, cut with a 1 inch circle punch.

G is for Ground Hog's Day!

We started off the morning wondering if the Ground Hog had actually saw his shadow or not.
I let them take plenty of guesses, and we talked about what happened if he did or didn't see his shadow.
Noo! he didn't see his shadow,so it will be an early Spring!
Oh well, in the south we always have an early Spring, it really doesn't matter if the ground hog see's or does not see his shadow! But it is fun to play along!

So let's make a Ground Hog Mask and go looking for our shadows.

And now they are looking for their shadows!
OOPS! They found theirs!

They also colored a couple Ground Hog's Day sheets
