Letter Dd Week

This week we read about dogs and dinosaurs. Has to be two favorites of the boys.

Our first book was to study different kinds of dinosaurs.

 And then on to make dinosaur crafts! This went into their binders.

Dd is for dinosaurs!

 I found the adorable craft at HERE at Pocketful of Posies.

The letter D template is from dltk.

I hand drew and cut out the rest.

Supplies we Used

green construction paper

We also made a stegosaurus with hand print plates.

blue construction paper for background
green construction paper to trace hands (plates)
white paper to draw stegosaurus (I hand drew)

I hand drew the dinosaur & cut him out.
They colored it green and green grass on the blue construction paper.

After gluing the dinosaur to the paper, they glued the googly eyes

in place and their hand print plates.

We read the book Go Dog Go!

I took one piece of construction paper and cut in half. The boys colored their d's, and then I cut them

out. I used the craft knife to cut the middle for the door. They glued the dog first, then their d on top.

Now we have a doggie doors!

Letter Bb: Brown Bear What Do You See?

Not having this book nor did our library, I had to print it myself from our curriculum we use.
I also found Bill Martin reading the book here on youtube! Loved it and so the kids!

We also had a clothes pin color matching cards game (I called it) that I printed, which was pretty easy for the boys. I did underline each color word with the correct color.

We love the book and focused on this book each day of our letter Bb week. I love the fact that it helps with colors even though they know theirs. :)

To go along with the bear theme they mixed and matched bears and clothes with a Melissa and Doug puzzle.

Butterflies

I printed a Bb template from dltk-kids.com.
I have a butterfly stamp they used to stamp their Bb's then color them.
They love stamping! This will go in their binders.

They made their own snacks! I gave them each a clothes pin to decorate, a small ziploc bag, and snacks to put in the bags. They pinned the bag in the middle to create a butterfly snack. How Fun!
I adore these trays!

Later that afternoon after they ate their snack, we used the clothes pins again to create a Butterfly craft to take home. I took out an old magazine, tore out a page for each child and then folded the paper accordion style and they clipped the pin into the middle. How clever!

Building the letter b

This is a pretty neat craft, building the letter b! I found this printable craft at Tired, Need Sleep.
They colored it, built it on a piece of construction paper and glued it down.
These will also go in their binders.

Bb is for Brown, Blue, and Bb pre-writing,tracing, Big to Small Bears 

These were our books for the week. I print out a read & color book of My Book About Bb.

They also made Bear masks & I read The Three Bears to them.

And that was our week! :)

Valentines Day: Love Birds

I decided we should make something for Valentines Day even though it's a little early.
 I found these cute Love Birds here at Moments of Mommyhood.

I used..
red,purple, and pink construction paper for the body, wings, and background
orange  for the feet
white paper for the eyes
adhesive foam hearts for the eyes and lips.

I drew a large purple heart for each child and then cut it in half, to make two birds.
The pink heart wings I traced with a heart cookie cutter.
I punched out the white circles for the eyes and drew the little orange feet the best that I could.
That's when I decided to use the adhesive hearts, instead of trying to cut smaller hearts.

I pulled up the picture from Moments of Mommyhood blog so we could follow step by step.

Viola! I think they are adorable!

Mitten Matching

Today we also read Jan Brett's book The Mitten.

 I absolutely love this book!

If you haven't read this book you should it's a must!

The book is a Ukrainian Folktale about a little boy whose grandmother knits him a pair of mittens. 

To go along with this book, we did a little Mitten Matching

The Snowy Day | Winter Scene Craft

Today we began our day by talking about Winter. We talked about the types of clothing  that's appropiate for cold snowy days.

I read the book The Snowy Day by Anna Milbourne and Elena Temporion.

 Great book to imagine a cold snowy day.

So after reading the book we created our Winter scene!

Lots of fun for the kids to put the pieces together to turn it into a beautiful piece of work.

I don’t have a fancy camera (digital SLR).  Can I still participate?

Absolutely. How else are you going to get better other than by practicing? 

 Cameras can help, but composition, angle, and creativity aren't 

any settings I have seen on one.  

I don’t have a blog.  How can I link up a picture?

If you don’t have a blog, just type the specific URL to your image

 (from Flickr or Photobucket, etc.) in a comment.  

Be sure to type the link in the comment box section so people can click on it. 

 If you type it where it asks for your name, email, and URL, 

it will just embed the link in the text of your name.  

We won’t know how to see your image.

I don’t live in the U.S. and the time difference can be a pain 

to join something like this.  How can I be a part of this, too?

Foto Friday will be up at 12:00 am (00:00 for some of you) every Friday CST.  

The link up will stay open throughout the weekend and close at 11:59 pm (23:59) Sunday CST.  This will give anyone around the world plenty of opportunity to join the fun.
