Shells
We began our week by reading A House for Hermit Crab by: Eric Carle
Hermit crab has out grown his home, and now is in search of a new shell and one that is not so plain.
This book takes the crabs journey through each month of the year.

We decided to make a house for hermit crab!
This is our second year making this craft, and they enjoy everything that goes into making this home.
Items we Used:
vitamin water bottle (because of the larger mouth)
sand
seashells
yellow and blue tempera paints
paint brushes
funnel
something to scoop the sand
First they put sand and their shell into the bottle and closed it up.
Next they painted the sun on top and the blue water, being careful not to paint over the sand so it can show.
Now hermit crab has a home!
These are the bottles.
Last year I purchased three hermit crabs and kept them in a aquarium. They survived a year. The largest hermit crab would fight the smaller ones. That was crazy to see. It's a lot of up keep, and they need special care. So I just didn't do this year.
Here I had seashell pages for them to cut out. Some had letters, so the kids spelled their names with those.
This activity was just mainly for cutting practice. I think they did quite well. These will go into their

Cookie cutter Shapes
I purchased a box of cookie cutters from Wal-Mart by Wilton with 101 different cookie cutters inside.
We took out everyone that began with the letter S and used them to paint S shapes.
This was fun!
There was a star (different sizes), snowman, six, seven, and a sun.
Here are all of them!
This will go in their binders.
Letter Ss sounds sheet
S is for super hero stickers.
Stamp the letter on the line below.
I made this sheet myself.
Seashell Painting
With the remainder of shells from the bag, they painted the larger shells.
This was also a fun activity.
Here they all are, and turned out beautiful!
Dot to dot shell sheet
We also read and colored together our book about the Letter Ss
which I forgot to take a picture of.
And that was our Ss week!
