Letter Cc Week | Cats & Yarn Painting

This week is Letter Cc week and our main focus is cats!

The first book I read to the children this week was
Have you seen my cat?
By: Eric Carle
This book is about a boy who can't find his cat, but meets some interesting people along the way.

Then we read the book
The Cat who Found his Way Home
By: Michlel Coxon
This book is about a cat who never washes and he stinks. So he's called Youstink. One day he gets lost but comes home sweet smelling.
I adore this book. I think it's the cutest book I've read in awhile.
After we read these two book we made a cat craft that will go in their ABC BInders.

 Supplies we used:
  • white card stock
  • yarn
  • orange, yellow, black, white, tempera paints
  • scissors
  • tacky glue
  • paper (to glue cat on)
  • green construction paper (for eyes)
  • marker
  • paint brush
  • paint trays

I used the white card stock to draw a seven inch circle for the cat's face. I drew two triangles above for the ears and repeated the process on the back of the card stock with their names because I knew this would become messy.

I placed each piece of card stock on their tot trays with a piece of yarn and their paint trays armed with paint, so the mess fun could begin.

None of the tots here have done the yarn painting before, only the four year old. So it was a little confusing at first.
You can see here how she was paying careful attention here to learn how it's done. The idea of yarn painting is to kind of slide the yarn through the paint and then drag it over the canvas. But eventually they all do their own thing. And it still works out! :)

Here you can see how I drew the cat on the card stock.

She worked so hard on this.

Here comes the mess...

This is why I traced the back of the card stock...lol So I could see what to cut.
Last time we painted, I cut out each piece and the pieces were getting lost and stuck everywhere,
that just didn't work out well.

After the cat dried we put all the pieces together,
and I think they came out pretty darn cute!
