Building Our Natural Play Area

Our neighbor had to cut down one of his trees. Oh really, I thought?! So I marched right over there to see if he had any plans for all those logs lying around. He said I could have as much as I wanted. Oh really, I thought?! Wow, now my head was spinning with all sorts of ideas!
I can't wait until we have them all finished!

Here is just one idea so far. It's not completed, we are adding to it.
Not sure what to call it. Any ideas? Stepping logs? Obstacle logs?

They love it!

Even the little guy joined in!

I will post as we complete the rest!

I love the logs! I want some cut up palm trees to use as seats.

I would love to see those!
I think we can make a seat(bench) for them out of one, that should be fun!

I love the picture of him jumping off of the log.

So cool -- kids love natural play items, don't they. Madison visits a place called Sugar Grove Nature Center. They have made a jump obstacle course from tree stumps. Kids jump from stump to stump… then they added a balance beam between two stumps. Low enough to the ground that if they fall they won't get hurt. They have a circle with tree stumps for seats and they do music time outside -- so much different sound than inside music time. If you had the thickest part of the tree, you could hollow out the inside and make a natural tunnel for the boys to crawl through. Just some ideas. You are so cool!

Really great ideas Amy! Thanks! Hopefully soon we can get busy and finish. I have a couple of ideas. I will look on the internet for more.

A few months ago we had a very fierce cyclone come through our area. The next day the streets were lined with fallen trees. I wanted so badly to go and collect some to make tree cookies and stumps and obstacle courses and so many other things but we were about to move :( Sigh

Your boys will have such fun playing on these. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you do - I'm a new follower now :)

Thanks for sharing with us. Hope to see you again next week :)
